4 Positive Results of Corporate Philanthropy in Ukraine
Corporate philanthropy can provide large amounts of money, time and other resources for the communities in which those corporations are located and for the global community. Offering these resources can support massive positive impacts in those communities. Here are four positive results of the Soloviev Foundation’s philanthropy.
1. Healthcare Support
Stefan Soloviev committed $1 million to Ukraine and Ukrainian citizens in need due to the war and humanitarian crisis occurring in the country. He and the Soloviev Foundation chose to do so in order to help people and also as a way to honor Soloviev’s grandmother, who hailed from Ukraine. The money was donated to the organization Americares, an organization dedicated to providing support for healthcare services supplying medicine, healthcare supplies and other relief supplies.
2. Aid for Refugees
Ukrainians fleeing the country also need support, some of which is being provided by the International Rescue Committee (IRC). One of the corporations supporting the IRC is the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The Carnegie Corporation pledged $1 million to assist refugees from Ukraine. Specifically, the money is supporting the IRC’s emergency request for assistance in sending critical aid to both externally and internally displaced Ukrainians.
3. Humanitarian Aid in War zones
It’s incredibly difficult to provide and support humanitarians working in and around war zones. Organizations such as United Way Worldwide are committed to facilitating as much humanitarian aid in war zones as possible. The United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh Foundation are working together to increase awareness of the United Way’s humanitarian networks and needs. This includes community outreach and education on the situation, encouraging people to spread awareness via social media and requesting charitable donations.
4. Disaster Logistics
Not only do Ukrainians need monetary support and supplies, but they also need help navigating the logistics of coordinating and distributing supplies and shipments. The nonprofit organization Airlink, which focuses on disaster logistics, is partnering with various freight and transportation corporations, such as AirCanada and Flexport, to assist humanitarian supply networks. This assistance is critical to ensuring supplies such as hospital beds and medicine reach their destinations intact and ready to be distributed and used.
